CALL FOR PROPOSALS
2006 NASPE CONFERENCE ON
PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER EDUCATION
October 12-14, 2006

“Directions for the 21st Century”

The purpose of this conference is to showcase exemplary practice and research in the preparation and continuing development of physical education professionals. The conference planning committee invites teacher educators, researchers, and graduate students in physical education teacher education (PETE) to submit proposals. Graduate students are encouraged to submit works in progress.

Presentation Options

Proposal options are: 50-minute sessions and posters

Conference Topics

A. Teacher development (pre-service and inservice): current P-12 curriculum models and instructional approaches, (e.g., Sport Education, TGFU, TPSR, Physical Best, etc.) fitness education, adventure education, and outdoor education; physical activity and health promotion; assessment; technologyrich K-12 instruction; continuing education and professional development for physical educators and physical activity professionals

B. PETE program design and regulation: standards, accreditation, assessment, and state testing;initial and advanced teacher education program models; initiatives and exemplary programs, courses, and assessments; professional socialization and dispositions; web-based and distance education

C. New responsibilities of physical educators in the 21st century: re-defining physical education;advocacy and community collaboration; the role of the physical educator in school wellness policy;public health issues; differentiated instruction; culturally responsive and inclusive teaching; online K-12 physical education

D. Technology innovations: for schools, teachers and students; field based applications; new technologies for physical activity; securing funding for technology; teaching technology to teacher candidates E. PETE professionals: who we are, and who we will be in the future; issues of recruiting, retaining,and educating future PETE faculty; future PETE professionals’ perspectives; training and support for clinical, adjunct and supervisory faculty; school teachers and administrators as PETE professionals

SUBMITTING A PROPOSAL

An author’s name may appear on no more than two proposals.

All presenters must be registered for the conference and must pay all conference fees.

Important proposal/abstract dates:

Final reception date: March 17, 2006

Acceptance notification: June 2, 2006

Instructions for preparing proposals:

1. Ensure that your abstract is grammatically correct and free of typographical errors.

‚ The font size must be 12 point, Times New Roman

‚ Use single spacing for all text

2. The abstract should be structured using the following format:

      Page 1:

• Title of the work.

          • Author/s and Institution/s (Place an asterisk * after the name of the author

            presenting the paper).

          • Address, telephone (home and office), fax and E-mail address of the presenting

            author.

          • Preference of presentation format a) oral (lecture, hands on, interactive, round

            table, panel discussion) or b) poster.

          • Presentation Topic Area (see Conference Topics on page 1)

      Page 2:

          • Title of the work.

          • Preference of presentation format a) oral (lecture, hands on, interactive, round

           table, panel discussion) or b) poster.

          • Presentation Topic Area

           Indicate “work in progress” if applicable.

          •Text (maximum 400 words)

For all proposals, the committee will consider the following criteria:

‚ Problem/rationale/hypothesis/purpose is clearly stated;

‚ Background information/theoretical framework is adequate;

‚ Program procedures or research methods (design and data analysis) are clearly described;

‚ Results/conclusions/discussion/arguments are clear and justified;

‚ Relevance to conference topics

Submissions will be accepted for oral presentations and poster presentations. It is only possible to select a limited number of proposals for oral presentations. Although authors indicate their preference for presentation format, the final acceptance with regard to presentation format will be at the discretion of the planning committee.

Proposals must be submitted as MSWord attachments to the e-mail address:                                          Draynes@aahperd.org

Proposal must be received no later than March 17, 2006. Receipt of the proposal(s) will be acknowledged electronically as soon as possible after the submission. If you do not receive acknowledgment within fifteen days, please contact De Raynes at NASPE.
